Dentistries

Veterinary dentistry includes the cleaning, adjustment, filing, extraction, or repair of your pets' teeth and all other aspects of oral health care.  The process begins with an oral exam of your pet’s mouth by a veterinarian. Because most dental disease occurs below the gumline, where you can’t see it, a thorough dental cleaning and evaluation are performed under anesthesia. Dental cleaning includes scaling (to remove dental plaque and tartar) and polishing, similar to the process used on your own teeth during your regular dental cleanings.

Anesthesia makes it possible to perform the dental procedures with less stress and pain for your pet. In addition, anesthesia allows for a better cleaning because your pet is not moving around and risking injury from the dental equipment.

We will send home pain-management and antibiotic medications with each procedure as precautionary measures.  We offer the following peripherals as recommendations:

  • Pre-anesthetic bloodwork

  • Post-operative laser therapy

  • Dental radiographs (X-rays)

  • Prescription dental diet

  • Dental treats, toothbrush, toothpaste, water additive

Indications of a Grade I dental procedure:

  • Mild Gingivitis - slight reddening and swelling of the gingival margin

  • No bleeding on gentle probing of the gingival sulcus

Grade I dental procedure includes:

  • Periodontal cleaning

  • Polishing and scaling

  • Charting of the teeth

Grade II

Grade II

Indications of a Grade II dental procedure:

  • Moderate gingivitis - the gingival margin is red and swollen

  • Gentle probing of the gingival sulcus results in bleeding

Grade II dental procedure includes:

  • Periodontal cleaning

  • Polishing and scaling

  • Charting of the teeth

  • Possible extraction

Grade III

Grade III

Indications of a Grade III dental procedure:

  • Severe gingivitis - gingival margin is very swollen, red or blush-red color

  • Spontaneous hemorrhage

  • Ulceration of the gingival margin

Grade III dental procedure includes:

  • Periodontal cleaning

  • Polishing and scaling

  • Charting of the teeth

  • Multiple extractions likely

Grade IV

Grade IV

Indications of a Grade IV dental procedure:

  • Severe gingivitis - gingival margin is very swollen, red or blush-red color

  • Spontaneous hemorrhage

  • Ulceration of the gingival margin

Grade IV dental procedure includes:

  • Periodontal cleaning

  • Polishing and scaling

  • Charting of the teeth

  • Multiple extractions, possibility of a full mouth extraction of teeth
